Understanding Our Challenges
Financial Instability is Impacting Student Learning
Sebeka Public School has a lot of great things going for it: small class sizes, flexible learning options and a community willing to invest in our students’ futures. But our ability to deliver the quality education we strive for is strained by declining enrollment and destabilized district finances.
We have been getting by with deficit spending and containing costs to maintain student opportunities, but this is not a sustainable approach. Between an expected deficit spending of approximately $320,000 in the next year and competitive educational environment, we have fewer resources for students and rising pressure on class sizes. Without the help of the proposed operating referendum, protecting crucial programming and class sizes will only become more difficult.
We value our students and families
Sebeka Public School provides opportunities for all students to learn and grow. We remain proactive and responsible by seeking creative ways to solve our funding challenges — from creating new, flexible learning options like 820online to listening to parents when they asked to return to smaller class sizes. With additional revenue, we could continue providing these valuable features and do even more to support student achievement.
We want to protect the community’s investments in our school
Thanks to community support, we have been able to build and upgrade our facilities to improve learning spaces for students. A voter-approved operating referendum would further support the day-to-day work that happens inside our buildings.
