The 820 Plan Operating Referendum
Sebeka School District wants to continue providing the programs and staff that students rely on every day.
On Tuesday, November 3, voters in the Sebeka Public School District will be asked to consider a new operating referendum that would raise general education revenue by $842 per pupil each year for ten years.
In total, this would generate about $352,537 annually in net new revenue for the district.
If approved by voters, the district plans to direct these dollars toward its highest priorities:

Achieving financial stability and stabilizing fund balance reserves
Sebeka has been deficit spending and cutting costs to protect student opportunities, and the district is projected to spend approximately $320,000 more than it takes in next year without this funding. Referendum revenue would help balance the operating budget and rebuild the fund balance reserve — allowing leaders to plan over the long term instead of managing one shortfall at a time.

Supporting early learning opportunities
Programs for our youngest learners provide a strong foundation for long-term success and keep young families connected to Sebeka. This funding would help sustain and strengthen those opportunities.

Providing classroom technology and instructional materials
Devices, software, curriculum and classroom materials need to be updated and replaced on a predictable schedule. Stable operating revenue would let the district keep those tools current rather than letting old tools fall into disrepair. In recent years the district has delayed curriculum purchases and reduced laptop buys to manage costs, so devices and materials in several classrooms are now due for replacement. Approximately $50,000 in levy funds would go toward these essential learning resources and unexpected building needs, such as HVAC repairs.

Sustaining student activities and extracurricular programs
Athletics, music, clubs and activities are where many students find a sense of belonging at Sebeka. This funding would help keep that full range of opportunities available to students in a school our size while reinforcing community pride in Team Sebeka. To manage past budget shortfalls, the district has already discontinued the theatre program, paused show choir, and reduced summer FFA and band programming — this funding is aimed at protecting the activities that remain from further cuts.

Maintaining small class sizes and retaining experienced teachers and staff
Small class sizes are one of Sebeka's greatest strengths, and it is among the most valued by parents. To protect class sizes, we must keep our experienced teachers and staff in place. This funding would help the district avoid further reductions.
